  An intimate gathering made for riveting conversation as Mentone Public Library launched into its fourth series of "An Author for All Seasons' with Shirley Whiteway and her novella published in 2013; "Juliet : the hatmaker's loves."  Refusing to shy away from the sensitive and controversial themes of her book, matters pertaining to forced adoption, forced marriage, abuse and inequality were brought to the forefront, all the while celebrating the unrelenting spirit and determination of the story's protagonist, despite the odds and un-loves stacked against her. Despite the difficult subject matter explored, Shirley Whiteway delivered her presentation with warmth and a personable nature that had audience members following her to lunch to share more conversation and food for the soul. Juliet : the hatmaker's loves Shirley Whiteway’s recent work, the Novella ‘Juliet... the hatmaker’s Loves’ focuses on the oppression of women.
