Hey Book Lovers! Three more sleeps 'till the big day...   We can't believe the Mentone Public Library's 90th Anniversary Celebration has finally arrived.  It feels like we've been planning it for ages and this weekend we can finally let our hair down and enjoy the fruits of our labour.     Thanks to Tony's superior streamer hanging and balloon blowing skills, we now have a library that looks like it's ready to party!      I know there's been a lot of Anniversary talk lately.  But never fear, after this weekend we will resume our regular posts on up-coming author talks and books we love.   Until then, happy reading!   Mentone Public Library       

Rome certainly was not built in a day...nor was it achieved by just one person.  So it rings true for the enthusiastic, diverse and talented team hard at work and play in the build-up to our 90th anniversary celebrations. Many emotions were circulating our humble library as a rehearsal and final meeting took place last weekend. Anticipation, jubilation, including some anguish as we paid tribute to those no longer with us to share in the occasion. Reigning supreme though, was our unbridled enthusiasm at the chance to showcase our homegrown literary talent, commemorate how far Mentone Public Library has come and withstood, and put on a memorable celebration for our local community.                With only one week to go, the stage is just about set for one unforgettable celebration sure to deliver a whole lot of heart....now it's just a matter of bums in seats and away we go! We look forward to celebrating our community'

It may be cold outside, but things are heating up in here at the Mentone Public Library.      As you all know, a love of books and reading is what drives our volunteers and we wouldn't be here without them.  But lately we've all been preoccupied with a little get together we've been organising - namely the: Mentone Public Library 90th Anniversary Celebrations   Saturday 30th May 11 am - 2 pm 36 Florence Street (Rear of Mentone CBA) Mentone Vic 3194   Okay, shameless plug, I know - but it's just so exciting!   We've been buying balloons, ordering the cake, and making sure the library is in tip top shape for our party. Mentone Public Library's Official Birthday  - Wednesday, 6th May 2015 Today marked the official milestone for Mentone Public Library, established on 6th May 1925 in response to the growing need for a book lending service in the district. In actual fact though, the library had a previous life stretching back to the late 1800s, but this spell proved all too brief due to declining patronage, until its re-birth in 1925. The pivotal words launching the re-birth of the library came from campaigning committee member Mr. Maloney who championed its cause with the statement; "The time is ripe for Mentone to have a public library!"
