Reflective Entry from Local Author Susan Berg: A Girl Who Lived...and Touched Our Hearts: 11am, Saturday, 25th July 2015   I  was invited to talk about my memoir “The Girl Who Lived” at Mentone Public Library on Saturday 25 th July. I was unsure at first how much I should share with people I had never met - especially when my life has been far from conventional. I decided to tell my story in all its rawness – as I’ve done in my book.   The group of 22 were compassionate.   They understood when my voice wavered, that I wasn’t just reading aloud a story – but that I was reliving my past. I had lost my parents and brother in a boating accident when I was fifteen years of age. I was the sole survivor.   I shared the guilt and grief I had felt over their deaths – for having been the person who was driving the boat when it sank, the person who had left them to go ahead for help. The person who had failed to locate them from the helicopter. Th...

A Dialogue to Heal All Wounds -  A Reflection on Cindy Rochstein and Panel Presentation at Mentone Public Library - 11am, Saturday, 27th June 2015 From the vantage point of a somewhat informed audience member, this was a session of startlingly eye-opening proportions and showed two wildly diverse ends of humanity's pendulum. On the one hand, we learned of the dire consequences when individuals are shunned and shamed for their beliefs, ethnicity or orientation - the ripple effect of heartache and the lifelong suffering and soul-destroying battles of those who can never resolve their differences, are always struggling to find acceptance, and those too afraid to live as they truly are. On the other hand, we were introduced to a passionate, compassionate and dedicated panel committed to improving the system to better the lives of others currently experiencing victimisation. By high demand, Cindy Rochstein; author, publisher, well-being advocate for our community, was...

Highlights From Our 90th Anniversary Celebration...

Like with all big events, we here at the Mentone Public Library needed some time to digest the festivities before we shared the highlights with you all.  That's my excuse for taking so long to bring you the goss from our birthday party. :-) Mordialloc Ukulele Group warming up the crowd.       There was a sense of excitement amongst the volunteers who had worked tirelessly to bring the day together.           We had local officials, writers, poets, historians, long-time library patrons and a street performer who made awesome balloon art (you should have seen the motorbike) and who went above and beyond by  preventing our marquee from taking off in the strong wind several times during proceedings.     Lesley and our Marquee saving Street Performer Shannon.     It was a wonderful celebration not only of the Mentone Public Library but of our local community as w...
