Happy 90th Birthday, Mentone Public Library!! - Wednesday, 6th May 2015

Mentone Public Library's Official Birthday
- Wednesday, 6th May 2015

Today marked the official milestone for Mentone Public Library, established on 6th May 1925 in response to the growing need for a book lending service in the district. In actual fact though, the library had a previous life stretching back to the late 1800s, but this spell proved all too brief due to declining patronage, until its re-birth in 1925.

The pivotal words launching the re-birth of the library came from campaigning committee member Mr. Maloney who championed its cause with the statement;
"The time is ripe for Mentone to have a public library!"
Curious to learn more? Thanks to the meticulous research of local historian Dr Graham Whitehead, you can read about it here.
