James Maclean (second from the right) poses with his family and best mates who also were the inspiration for "Mordialloc"

James Maclean was a local lad of the City of Mordialloc in Melbourne Australia, whose rite of passage unfolded in the 1980's. His home today is Turkey where he runs his own English language school for the country's finest diplomats, educators and high ranking citizens.

We were thrilled to have James, his larger-than-life, passionate personality, together with his raucous and equally big-hearted support squad of local lads who grew up with James, join our local author line-up this year for our seventh series of

James kindly took time out of his frantic travel schedule and even swifter return home to Turkey to reflect on his experience presenting at Mentone Public Library...

"Being given the opportunity to work with such dedicated community volunteers is an honour I will not soon forget.

I did the best I could and I'm glad that it went so well.

Getting Southern FM involved was another exciting first for me.

In all, it was a very memorable and positive experience."

James' charmed the enthusiastic and appreciative audience with his humorous and engaging manner and anecdotes about the writing of his 2016 novel "Mordialloc - Growing up ain't easy". Set in 1988, the novel's plot revolves around characters and urban myths and legends James grew up with as a teenager in nearby Mentone. His local knowledge, research and persistence at his writing craft resulted in an authoritative coming of age story from his unique bayside perspective.
