A Zoom Review:

Children's
(Early Bird)
Book Week
Online Showcase

INTRODUCTION:

REVIEW PART ONE:
Meet George Ivanoff
by
Nathaniel Davies

https://www.facebook.com/daviesnathanielj

George, a highly experienced author, is a wonderful mentor for young writers. In this event he was promoting his recent non-fiction works consisting of

and soon to be released
“The Human Body Survival Guide”,

which comes out on 15 September 2020

while also interviewing the two younger authors.

George’s presentation was light, humorous and charismatic with funny and entertaining readings
from the two books mentioned.

The books are both in the same style and formatting with different colours, and both use the same modern, young fictional character’s point of view:
“The Australia Survival Guide” to describe
“How Australia is trying to kill you!”;

and the next book,
“The Human Body Survival Guide”
provides an interesting, humorous tour of medical quirks about the human body and things that could attack it, that may also be trying to kill you.

A Bit About George
What Makes Him Tick

George watches far too much Dr Who, eats far too much chocolate, and drinks far too much coffee, presumably due to their secret abilities in getting him out of writer’s block.

These must really work, because he is a popular Australian author of
over one hundred books for kids and teens.”

George During his School Days. Circa 1984
George cites his parents and grandma as early supporters of his writing, saying, ‘you can be whatever you want to be’ and on reading his work, always said ‘Oh that’s lovely dear’.

While his wife who reads everything before it goes to the editors, gives
more honest feedback
and is able to tell him when something doesn’t work.

If you are interested in writing
and wondering what the first thing to do about it is,
George said,

Write!
That is what
makes you a writer.
Write!

REVIEW PART TWO:
Meet Two Young Authors
by

Meet Young Author:

Petar, an accomplished 11-year-old boy from Slovenia, presented his newly published book;

 for the Mentone Public Library
Children’s (Early Bird) Book Week
Special Presentation
through Zoom
on the 15th of August, 2020.

He had prepared an interesting video presentation about his writing journey, complete with graphics and effects. It was easy to follow and fun to watch.

As part of his presentation, he gave a well-spoken excerpt from his book, which is a fictional version of a trip his family took to the Gold Coast.

He came across as level-headed, enthusiastic, mature, friendly, with a good sense of humour, and he was willing to answer any questions from the audience.

A Bit About Petar
What Makes Him Tick

Petar loves collecting books, reading and writing,
and getting rid of litter so our oceans can stay clean.
He came over to Australia when he was 5, speaking no English, so school at first was quite difficult, but as he was forced to learn it, he picked it up quite quickly.

Petar developed his passion for writing at primary school with the encouragement of his teacher. He started out writing short stories and then started novel writing.

His favourite part of publishing is marketing...

...particularly online.

...and his least favourite part...

is the editing!

As he finds it frustrating and overwhelming.

His best piece of advice for budding writers:

"Have fun with it!"

Meet Young Author:

At the same presentation, Meesha,
an accomplished 15-year-old girl from Melbourne,
presented her book,

Amazingly, she wrote this book
at the tender age of 6 years old!

A bright and bubbly young lady,
she enthusiastically spoke about her reasons
for writing this particular story.

She was proud of her work,
and quite happily answered
questions from the audience.

A Bit About Meesha
&
What Makes her Heart Tick

Meesha’s number one goal in life has been
to inspire people to be the best they can be.

She believes that all dreams can come true
with persistence and determination.

Meesha gets her own inspiration
from personal experiences
and the people she comes across.

Her family have always been supportive
in her passion for writing.

She admits there are challenges with writing- such as writer’s block and the long rewriting/editing process -
but she is keen to continue writing and publishing books.

She encourages everyone
with the passion for writing
to just get started

Her biggest secret?

Age does not matter!
