Lenny Marks Gets Away with Murder Author talk review and Writer Meets Reader promotion
Lenny Marks Gets Away with Murder and Kerryn Mayne coming again for Writer meets reader
A full house at our Mentone Public Library was entertained and enthralled as we listened to Kerryn traverse many subjects – life as seen by a police officer, the busy and sometimes hectic life of a mother of four children under five, two of them nine-month-old twins, living with a young family in Aspendale Gardens, the goodness in almost everybody, even hardened criminals (there but for the grace of God, etc). And those were just the side topics!
What Kerryn was there for was to speak to us about the journey she took through pregnancy and COVID to produce a magnificently entertaining novel, ‘Lenny Marks Gets Away with Murder’, a sort of crime fiction / psychological study / philosophical / human story, set in Belgrave about a young school teacher who is navigating her path away from a past beset with violence to a better life.
Of course, as it is a crime novel of sorts, Kerryn had to negotiate her story of the novel’s construction and birth avoiding all spoilers. And this is a difficult task. But she did it with panache and a great deal of humour.
And the book ‘Lenny Marks Gets Away with Murder’ is a great read. It will be the subject of the Library’s June ‘Writer Meets The Readers’ Book Club and Kerryn has made herself available to come and speak to us bookworms. You can pick a copy up at the Library for a fee of $5. The event is currently scheduled for a new date of Thursday June 29th at 2pm.
We were also honoured to share the venue with two City of Kingston Mayors, the current City of Kingston Mayor, Cr Hadi Saab who talked about the library at the event; and former City of Kingston Mayor (1997-2000), Lesley McGurgan a long-term supporter of the library. Thank you to all who attended this fascinating event.
